Litigation Paralegal (Mandarin Speaker)

PURPOSE OF POSITION

The Litigation Paralegal will report directly to the Sr. Counsel, performing paralegal functions of a variable, complex problem solving and responsible nature which require a significant degree of knowledge, decision-making skills and independent judgment.  He/she will prepare drafts of motions and other court documents, completing legal and fact research and preparing for depositions and trials.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide operational and staff assistance to assigned attorneys; review and investigate factual matters and claims related to legal cases; summarizes findings and organizes by issue and claim;
  • Assist in the coordination of discovery and subpoena responses, including document review assistance and the development of privilege logs and other documents for attorney review;
  • Maintain files for active litigation matters and assist in the maintenance of litigation summaries on the status of all open matters;
  • Assist in the filing of documents;
  • Perform legal research as requested (Lexis);
  • Draft correspondence related to litigation matters.
  • Ensure that copies of documentation are properly filed and distributed
  • Responsible for calendaring dates
  • Create and organize appendices, briefs, and facts
  • Identify and contact experts who may help in a case
  • Attend hearings and trials in order to take notes.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

The following knowledge, skills, and abilities may be acquired through a combination of formal schooling, self-education, prior experience, or on-the-job training:

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or Paralegal Certificate (or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 2+years of litigation paralegal experience
  • Proficiency in English and Mandarin a must. Knowing Cantonese language is a big plus, but not essential
  • Strong technology skills (e-filing, electronic discovery, some experience with litigation software a plus)
  • Strong knowledge of Federal and State Rules of Court, court filing procedures, e-filing and service of process
  • Exhibit excellent communication and listening skills.
  • Ability to work independently and proactively with a forward-thinking mentality
  • Accurate and efficient with ability to meet deadlines, multitask and set priorities
  • Positive attitude and leadership qualities
  • Must be detail oriented with the ability to work under constant interruptions by telephone and/or visitors

Case File Manager – Personal Injury (Mandarin Speaker)

PURPOSE OF POSITION

The Case File Manager (CFM) is the primary point of contact representing the law firm to the client, representatives of insurance companies and medical service providers.  Responsible for processing the case, facilitating property damage and/or bodily injury resolution and work closely with attorneys on issues.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The CFM signs up the client directly or takes over the client’s intake process after the Department Manager has signed up the client. The intake process involves filling out forms, preferably on the computer. The forms include all pertinent contact information, such as accident details, police report, property damage pictures, insurance information and any medical treatments.
  • The CFM opens the case and enters all notes from the intake form in Abacus system.
  • The CFM makes arrangements to have the Property Damage (PD) repaired with an auto body shop within the network of the law firm’s contacts.
  • The CFM coordinates the Medical Treatment (MT) of the client by ensuring that they are seeking treatment through their doctors or other appropriate medical providers.
  • The CFM contacts both the client’s and opposing party’s insurance companies.
  • During the MT process, the CFM is responsible for:
    • Maintaining regular contact with the client,
    • Scheduling necessary medical appointments and
    • Ensuring all appointments are kept by the client.
  • The CFM is responsible for ensuring that all documents related to the case are properly scanned into the Abacus file.
  • The CFM will obtain all final Medical Records (MR) and bills and prepare a report for preparation of the Demand.
  • The CFM is responsible for providing regular updates (at least every two weeks) to the PI Department Manager on the status of the case.
  • Keep abreast of current Personal Injury regulations and procedures relating to Personal Injury.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

The following knowledge, skills, and abilities may be acquired through a combination of formal schooling, self-education, prior experience, or on-the-job training:

  • Requires 1+ years processing all aspects of a Personal Injury process.
  • Experience working with clients, insurance adjusters and medical providers
  • Experience in writing demand letters.
  • Proficiency in English and Mandarin language is required. Knowing both Mandarin and Cantonese language is a big plus, but not essential.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with all Personal Injury process and issues of complexity.
  • Ability to manage a high caseload
  • Requires independent decision making and the ability of problem solving
  • Displays cultural sensitivity and adaptability
  • Requires effective communication, effective listening, sound judgment and alertness to the nuances of each case.
  • Able to function with a high level of patience, tact and diplomacy in handling negative or challenging situations
  • Excellent organization skills. Excel in time management as well as customer service excellence
  • Must be detail oriented, accurate with the ability to work under constant interruptions by telephone and/or visitors.
  • Able to convey information and ideas through speech in ways that others will understand.
  • Strong interpersonal and public relations skills. Excellent negotiations skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job.

Case File Manager – Workers’ Compensation (Mandarin Speaker)

PURPOSE OF POSITION

Perform duties to manage a caseload of complex workers’ compensation claims, determine compensability within the limits of standard or accepted practice.  Analyzes and interprets statutes and regulations applying to case facts to render appropriate legal and ethical decisions.  Analyses legal issues, provides input on legal strategy and utilized independent judgment in decision-making while managing claims in a prompt and thorough manner from inception through closure.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES –

  • Responsible for complex and difficult cases.  Receive and review information related to a new claim.  Communicate with injured workers, employers and medical providers.  Conduct prompt and thorough investigation of case facts and circumstances.  Interprets and applies appropriate statutes and regulations in determine compensability.
  • Process EAMS, file application, DOR’s, computing average weekly wages and doctor provider.   Proactively manages claim costs and expenses.
  • Schedule PTP exams, AME and PQME’s
  • Ensure that all potential client is properly documented in our Abacus system and that the potential client status (rejected, accepted, meeting scheduled, etc) and the source is properly logged.  Set up reminder in abacus to accurately manage medical treatment.  Document follow-up care and any other claim related activity
  • Document and communicate all claim activities timely and effectively and in a manner which supports the outcome of the claim file.  Respond to all incoming mail, emails, telephone calls and faxes from providers and injured worker.  Take required action to quickly respond.
  • Audit physician reports of permanent partial disability evaluations to ensure accuracy in accordance. Ensure prompt and appropriate processing of disability benefits.  Present cases of possible permanent total disability to the department manager.
  • Assist with data entry which includes running multiple reports such as review/statistical reporting and ad-hoc project reports.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

The following knowledge, skills, and abilities may be acquired through a combination of formal schooling, self-education, prior experience, or on-the-job training:

  • 2+ years demonstrated knowledge of Workers’ Compensation laws and related case management procedures/protocols.
  • A strong multi-tasker who enjoys speaking with clients (position will be approximately 70% phone work) is critical.
  • Proficiency in English and Chinese language is required
  • Requires independent decision making and the ability of problem solving
  • Must possess and demonstrate an understanding of acceptable professional etiquette
  • Displays cultural sensitivity and adaptability

Marketing Assistant

PURPOSE OF POSITION

Work closely with the marketing team in the development and implementation of marketing plans and strategies.  The position will assist in the creating and delivering all Chinese marketing material.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Undertaking daily administrative tasks to ensure the functionality and coordination of department’s activities
  • Assist in the organizing of promotional events traditional or digital campaigns and attend them to facilitate their success
  • Compose and post online content on the company’s social media accounts.
  • Write marketing ads which include brochures, newspapers, magazine, forum, seminars, radio or TV.
  • Prepare and maintain marketing reports.
  • May be asked to monitor, forecast and measure the effectiveness of marketing advertising for the Chinese market
  • Collaborate with others to help leverage engagement of key audiences including in-house web designer, photographers, videos and others to deliver superb content.
  • May be asked to plan and coordinate Chinese marketing events
  • Translate and generate Chinese content for Social Media and/or website
  • Learning and working with several types of software for digital marketing

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

The following knowledge, skills, and abilities may be acquired through a combination of formal schooling, self-education, prior experience, or on-the-job training:

  • Requires BA or BS preferred in marketing, Communications, Business Studies,
  • 1+years of experience in marketing with in-depth knowledge of Social Media
  • Proficient at reading, listening, writing and speaking both Mandarin and English
  • Ability to multi-task and adhere to deadlines
  • Well-organized with a customer-oriented approach
  • Up to date on best practices, trends and news of social media
  • Experience using external social media apps to create contests, automated postings, cross social channel postings is a plus

Internship Opportunities – College Students

Law Offices of Scott Warmuth offices offer internship opportunities for motivated individuals. Interns are given a wide variety of tasks and leave with a greater, more practical understanding of law. Our academic interns are college students hired through a formal program with a recognized academic program that gives academic credit in exchange for work experience. Our academic interns are unpaid positions and are available during the summer months. Successful interns are enthusiastic about legal work, exposure to real projects to gain real world experience, willing to learn, detail-oriented and a positive attitude.
